Great Powers and Globalizing China, 1854-1949
An international conference presented by the Dept. of History, National University of Singapore, and Singapore History Consultants
The conference was held over two days (23rd February – 24th February 2024), at the Rise of Asia Museum in Haw Par Villa.
The event explored the role of ‘Men in the Middle’ – individuals who worked in China, while at the same time reporting back to their ‘home countries’ – in Great Power efforts to globalise China.
Eight presentations, including the keynote by Prof Frank Dikötter of the University of Hong Kong, stimulated lively discussion.
We would like to thank all speakers, staff, volunteers, and audience members who helped to make this conference a success.
